Hey all, read some good news in the Milton newspaper today. Apparently Mattamy and Fieldgate want to front some funds to get Derry widened this year instead of 2009 between Tremaine and Bronte at a cost of about 11 million. That's good news for us moving to the escarpment this year and next. Final decision will be made by the town this Wednesday I believe.

here is the story

Developers may front money for roadwork

News
Apr 13, 2007
Large Medium Small Print This Article Tell a friend It looks like work on another section of Derry Road will be fast-tracked now that two developers are offering to pay up front for the construction.
Mattamy Homes and Fieldgate Homes have asked the Region to widen Derry between Tremaine Road and Bronte Street this year instead of in 2009, as currently planned.

The Region's planning and public works committee supported a motion at its meeting Wednesday to enter into an agreement with the two home-building companies for the $11 million needed to complete the work.

Then, Mattamy and Fieldgate would be reimbursed without interest down the road. The pair are both building subdivisions in the area where they're asking for Derry Road to be widened.

The agreement is along the same lines as several others that were made under the Accelerated Transportation Capital Program, which forms a partnership between the Town, Region and Mattamy Homes to advance construction timelines for major thoroughfares.

The motion on Derry Road will go before regional council Wednesday.

this is really good news!!!
just posted this in the Mattamy Model Specific section and thought it would be better here:
I hope they also speed up the process of installing an over/underpass at the train track...I was just looking at a satelite image of Milton (on google maps) and there was what I would call a "super (looong) train" that had just crossed Derry...can't image how long of a wait that would be!...we really need an over/underpass there SOON!!!

Does anyone know when Derry will be widened going east of Trudeau? i.e. towards trafalgar? or even further to Ninth line?

There was a old Halton report saying sometime in 2008

http://councilarchive.region.halton.on. ... cs5806.pdf on page 9.

But that report I read was back in 2006 so wasn't sure if dates have changed since then or not?

Hi everyone

Regional Councils meet at 9.30 am on Wednesday mornings every three weeks (check halton.ca for council schedule) the motion was passed today for the widening of Derry between Bronte and Derry with the underpass to come later (hopefully 1-2 years). Only needs a final agreement signed between the Region, Mattamy and Fieldgate homes.

The section between James Snow Parkway and 9th line has been accelerated to be done in 2008 including major work in two creek valleys which may require the closure of Derry between 6th line and Trafalgar Road for a couple of months. The road is to be widened to four lanes all the way to 9th line to link up with a similar section through Mississauga.

More information to follow when the contracts are finalized.

Colin Best
Local & Regional Councillor
Wards 2 & 4.

The sooner we get an underpass, the better!
Just wanted to make sure...an underpass is when the vehicle traffic goes underneath the train tracks, right?
