There's a local reporter who has been reading/commenting here in this very thread (hint hint)

I don't know how FOI requests work exactly, but I know where and who's emails I'd start with.

Based on the glowing writeup of Carrs performance that just arrived at my door, I doubt any FOI's are being asked for.

How does the media allow us to be manipulated like this?

That's the question I asked myself as well but it is only one developer so far and I thought that the units were being sold before the announcement was made in order to avoid the negative effect on pricing, but guess what, prices have increased on a weekly basis on each and every release. There doesn't seem to be any stopping demand for new housing in that area even now when some closings have been delayed 3-4 months.

Yup. Our local experts said this would basically do nothing to affect the pricing on homes and this is kinda helping to prove that, so all that's left is to find out who knew?

Seems that any CN official is more than happy to say it when talking - now we just need the right person with a platform to ask. "If" someone sat on big information like this for the express purpose of attempting to affect election voting (or something else), then that's the kind of thing we should know.

If fact, the news that the intermodal is going in is actually only the 3rd most important tidbit in this story.

First is that the region plans to build empty HOV lanes on our surface roads
Second is the someone in a level of government potentially sat on this for personal gain.
Third is that an intermodal is going in.

HOV lanes make sense when you overbuild your road’s in anticipation for future growth. You don’t need the third lane just yet, so why not make it an HOV lane and look all progressive to score some points with the hybrid car owner demographic?

Sure, as the town grows and that lane becomes needed, it will be politically impossible to remove that designation – but politics is all about the right now – and right now that’s an easy win. That’s also why the town voted to use cheaper ash fault that will degrade prematurely. Who cares about problems that will happen 10 years from now? We saved 300K!

I would hope that now that the intermodal is going in, they will reconsider the HOV lane.

Just some minor observations:

When Gary Carr delivered his petition a few years ago with 6000 signatures, the population of Halton was just over 500,000 (Googled it). So only 1.2% of Halton residents signed. The overwhelming majority did not bother or care? But the squeaky (loud) wheel got all the grease?

Only recently were we advised by a local councilor (I think it was Zeeshan) that the new policy of Halton was to build 6 lane roads. I doubt there are many instances where 6 lanes are necessary (exception Dundas) so the question begs: Why suddenly go to 6? Perhaps to accomodate the extra truck traffic from the Intermodal? Pure coincidence?

Some things stink, even worse than the dump or chicken farm.

^^^ getting into that question was where we found out that we're getting hov lanes on roads like Britannia in the future.

Zeeshan said it was part of the new mandate by the RoH to build to maximum lane size from the get go now. Why now? Why Tremaine? Did that decision accidentally help CN decide to go forward or was it made with them in mind - I dunno??

Again all questions that might/could get answered with a better press.

Milton's "HOV" lanes stand for "Heavily Overloaded Vehicles"

Thank you for continuing to comment and share, everyone. There will be more info to come as the process goes on.

June 22, 2015 - The public comment period on the proposed Environmental Impact Statement Guidelines is closed. The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is considering comments received to inform the preparation of the final guidelines that will be issued to the proponent.

Milton should invest in right hand turn lanes prior to building 6 lane roads. HOV lanes won't improve traffic flow when all the lights are set to "traffic calming " (cars make the set of lights at 80km and anything less = a red light)

Lookinga t the map, Britania and Hwy 25 will not be 6 lane roads but rather 4 lanes + 2 lanes for Transit/HOV.

4+2 was 6 last time I checked ;-)

Let's start counting shoulders as lanes too. No one can drive in them, but they still count, right?
