I've decided to add this disclaimer for anyone who only reads the initial post and doesn't read all the way down to see that it has been resoved. Thanks to Diana at Mattamy for clearing this all up!

Here's my original post:

:x

So my wife and I leave for work this morning very excited because we knew we were getting grass being put into our backyard.
When we got possession of our new home in April, Mattamy very kindly gave us a hose and a sprinkler, among other goodies. We were advised that we should leave the hose and sprinkler out so that the new sod can be watered as soon as it was put in.
I did so upon receiving the notice and made certain last night that both were there.
I arrived home tonight thrilled to see we had grass, but was surprised to find it wasn't being watered. I also found the hose disconnected -- but still there -- and the sprinkler missing!
I can't imagine Mattamy would have done this, so the only other possibility would be one of our new neighbours (either on our street or among the homes behind and surrounding us) took it.
You have to be a real piece of work to steal a sprinkler. I don't even care about the sprinkler itself, but what irks me is fresh sod needs to be watered badly and my grass is drying out while I'm at work because some scumbag took our sprinkler!
Given the hose was disconnected, I can only assume they were planning to take the hose too, but realized it'd be more trouble than it was worth -- not too mention more noticeable dragging a long hose around.
It's an inexpensive sprinkler, but honestly... what kind of A-Hole does this? Is this what we have to expect from our new neighbours, who have all seemed very nice so far?
I also don't believe it was some passerby on the street because where our water tap is located, and where our hose and sprinkler were left for Mattamy, was behind our A/C unit at the side of the house. You wouldn't be able to see it from the street.
Does this mean that until we have a fence, I won't be able to leave my BBQ out there, or our patio set? If they're going to take an inexpensive sprinkler, that they likely received from Mattamy too, maybe nothing is safe out there.
I guess even in beautiful Milton, we're not immune from stupid scum.

Eclipse, these are the same kind of people that dump illegally because they are too CHEAP to spend a buck or two. You're going to find that in these kind of neigbourhoods (hopefully only a small amount of people because I like to believe in the good of people). I'd love to catch these people in the act and bitch-slap them but I'm too nice a guy to cause a scene. Pathetic, I know.

Don’t get mad at your neighbor (ok a lil bit), I know who did it, coz they did same to me!!

The guys that laid the sod!

Now the fundamental fault lies with all the neighbors who didn’t abide by the request to put out their sprinkler and hose, I was home and kept chasing one sod layer after the other as they kept moving my hose and sprinkler and dumping it at one neighbor or the other. I got distracted for an hour or so and found my sprinkler had moved again, this time I never found it as they had all gone for the day and had to go get a new one. I am MAD and will look for whoever is the super of the team and complain tomorrow.

But you really wonder why just one in 5 people did put out theirs and caused all the chaos!!

You know what? I hope you're right, because I don't want to always be wondering which of my new neighbours was the culprit.
That is so strange that the guys laying the sod would do that, and even if they absolutley had to, they could've put the hose back properly, instead it was laid across between both my lot and my neighbours'. If my neighbour saw the hose like that, they'd think I'm some jerk who is throwing my hose on their property!
Thanks for letting me know, proudowner! I'll call the Mattamy trailer to find out if they know anything of this. Like I said, I don't care about the sprinkler itself, just the principle of it.

Yeah, that’s what happened to your sprinkler and mine.

Immediately they rolled the grass down with the rollers they were running like mad trying to get them watered . A couple of homes didn’t even have their water turned on and they had to pull over from the neighbor to wet the lawn.

2ce I had to go retrieve my sprinkler/hose, I should have learnt and just kept it in but wanted to water my lawn properly...too late the 3rd time.

I had a similar experience... arrived one day to find new grass in our back yard with a hose and sprinkler on.. wooho... figured it was a gift to go with the new grass.

However, I had a better sprinkler, so I go and attach it to the end of the hose... great, watered the grass for over a week with this combo.
Even gave the cheapo sprinkler to the neighbour who didn't get his for some reason.

One day go back to turn the hose on... it's gone along with my sprinkler (fancy shmancy with a timer)... Grrrrr... apparantly it wasn't a gift.
But now my personal sprinkler is gone.
Called Mattamy, they told me to go out buy a new sprinkler and they will cover the bill... :)

Hope this helps.

Hey Steve,
Sorry to hear about the sprinkler... I'm home today and will keep an eye out.
When did you get your notice & sprinkler & hose for the grass? I just ran out to canadian tire today to buy a hose and sprinkler just in case they finish the grass .... I didnt realize that we were supposed to get them from Mattamy?

Hey Dana,
How are you and Sam? Hope you're settling nicely into the new home.
We got our hose and sprinkler when we got our keys. There was a notice on our door maybe two to three weeks ago advising about the sod coming in and to ensure you leave a sprinkler and hose out for them to water it.
We want to have you guys over for a drink sometime soon. Settling into a new house is a lot of work. Once we're done, we'll give you a shout and hopefully you guys can make the long trek two doors down to our place!

Crap, Mattamy had us all buy our own hoses/sprinklers in phase 9. Never had it stolen, but there was no such thing as Mattamy "freebies", except for the plants/dirt that each phase got to participate in.

Tim

I hear ya, Tim. We came from Phase 7 and we got nothing for that too. Maybe the "gifts" were for being repeat customers? We gave them nearly $1 million in home purchases, they gave us a few knick-knaks.
In all seriousness, Mattamy has been very nice to us and has provided great service. The little gifts were just icing on the cake from a very pleasant buying experience.

Well, I called Mattamy to tell them of the situation. I explained everything and told them that I wasn't calling to get a new sprinkler, just simply to provide feedback that whomever was doing the sodding really should be a little more careful with returning the hoses and sprinklers if they need to use them.
I want to thank Diana at Mattamy who not only agreed and apologized unneccissarily, but also saw to it that a new sprinkler and hose were at my door upon my arrival home. It's that kind of service and attention to details that has me in my second Mattamy home.
And thanks again to proudowner for making me aware that this what happened, and not a surrounding neighbour who may have taken it!
