How close to closing do you need to get a lawyer and what kind of info do they need?

you can get a lawyer anytime, the sooner the better actually as they can review your purchase agreement for you. (don't panic though! haha)

I strongly recommend Travers, Paquette and Deutschman, they are in town at 100 Main Street, and since they expanded their practice to town, (they are an extremely prominent firm in the K/W and Cambridge areas) I have had nothing but rave reviews from my clients.

I don't have their contact info with me right this moment...but speak with Heather, and mention that I referred you if you give them a call....she will take good care of you.

Jessica :)

ok about getting a lawyer anytime - is WRONG-- I work for a real estate lawyer and you should retain a lawyer as soon as you sign the Agreement. Its very impt dont wait until the last minute for this!

I have to agree with both Valerie and Jessica. You CAN get a lawyer at any time however it IS a good idea to get one while you are in the process of signing the purchase agreement - especially on a new build - as the lawyer can review the contract and a lot of times they will cap any closing costs that you may incur from the builder. Every contract is slightly different and you don't want any surprises on closing day - especially if it is your first home.

Valerie, that is what I meant.....I just know that funkeemonkey has not just signed their purchase agreement....and I didn't want to put them into a panic.

The sooner the better is obviously the best option, and I'm sorry if my wording didn't come across that way originally.

Do you work for a firm in town?

Jessica :)

We used Richard Furlong really nice guy. He reviewed our agreement and saved us money right off the bat. He will also do wills and power of attorneys if needed . We opted to have ours done when we closed. Mr. Furlong has done a lot of Mattamy's closings and is one of the people they recommend.
