Is anyone else with Union Gas and on their equal billing plan. Do you find it feasible?

For me, (2 person household), I've paid 10 x the amount of what I actually used so far in the 1st 2 months of service. Does this balance out throught the year?
Personally, I think I'll cancel and pay for what I use...

Thanks for any feedback
Nelson

Could you explain this a little more? I don't understand how they will get more money out of you on en EBP vs non EBP.

Without EBP, they will charge you what you owe them.

With EBP, they will generally charge you more (the "average" bill they come up with will be higher than what you would have paid in "most" months). That gives them extra money that belongs to *you*. Warren Buffett calls this "float". They will apply this money to your future bills, but until then they can invest it and keep the returns for themselves.

That's not true in all cases. For example, we moved in to our house in the month of Oct, and were paying $110/month (on EBP) when we were burning $200 worth of gas through the winter. It wasn't until the next September when we actually 'evened up' with Union. So in that respect, Union actually gave me float money. We are on year 3 now with EBP and I find that knowing what I owe every month makes it easier for our budgeting, and that Union does a good job of estimating our consumption.

They actually just dropped the EBP amount lately over the nosedive NG prices have taken over the past few months. :D

I paid "USE ONLY" for the first year, then went on equal billing for the second... that way they use your data to create a REAL equal billing based on your yearly useage... makes it easy to budget.... especially in winter with Xmas, Valentines day, my wife Bday and our anniversary... cost of heat in the winter on a PAY FOR USE plan was killing me.

I just signed us up for EBP after 1 year in the house and it came out to a really reasonable charge - $79/month. I actually calculated it myself offline first using the method they say they use on their website and I got an almost identical calculation for the monthly charge. So I do recommend waiting at least 1 year before signing up for this so they can use your actual usage for one whole year to estimate. If you sign up for free on their website to have access to your account, you can click on a button there that will estimate what your EBP would be if you signed up, this way you don't go into it blind. Hope that helps!

I waited a year before I setup equal billing.

From what I understand they take 12 months out of the year to come up with the standard monthy payment and you pay that for 11 months, on the last month they will take into account if you used more or less gas for the year and you will pay that amount.

EX. We started out at $120 per month, then they dropped it to $112 per month sometime during the year and the 12th month I payed $40 due to less gas usage...Now with my full year with equal billing they have dropped the price again to around $90/month.

You are right LG, I just called today to setup a new account, to waive $250 security deposit there are 3 options:

1.Equal billing and Pre-authorized payment
2.Letter of reference from previous utility company in last 6 months
3.Equifax(credit report) and fax it to them
