I am not saying this is Donna's fault at all. Just the response from her, didn't tell me anything new. I glad it update you more though.
We can bring up this topic at the public meeting when it does take place, hopefully they will answer questions.

ya - and i think the first thing the Board should do is re-calibrate thier projection formulas for "new Milton". they have openly admitted that they grossly under estimated the number of kids that would be attending HV Public, even with data recieved from the builder. apparently thier formulas use variables like # of lots, # bedrooms, etc, and have some historical data built in. Well... HV re-wrote history. So at a planning meeting last spring, the Planning Dept from the Board put up a pretty chart showing thier projections for the area SW of Derry/Thompson (Mattamy & Sundial) ... ~200 kids. so i looked at a similarly sized area in older HV, and the numbers were more like ~400. And how much has the enrollment of Sam Sherratt increased since the new area was included? ~300 kids. And homes are still closing. i ask them about recalibrating using HV Public as basis, and they nodded, but didn't committ. The projections they give to the Ministry (you know, the suits that hand out the money for new schools) are always low

sorry for my babble about numbers, but thats my "thing" - it just doens't make sense to me.

In the mean time, i will send that petition to as many parents as i can and maybe we can foreward it to the Town, the Board and Shellrock Developments.

Thanks Rick!

Bernadette are you factoring in the FTE when you look at the numbers? The last couple of charts I have seen - as recent as last week are fairly acurate based on that.

Bernadette, i want to thank you for posting my reply...I really appreciate it.
I hadn't been on the forum before as i mistakenly thought it was something specifically for the residents of Hawthorne Village and didn;t want to intrude on that. Daycaremom set me straight and so I have set up an account and will try to check the site frequently.
Anyone who would like to talk to me personally though, can always do so through my e-mail at ddanielli@hdsb.ca or by phone at 905-854-6339.
Thanks,
Donna
P.S. Love the petition.....great idea and maybe it will help light a fire under Shellrock.

I would be very willing to help too! What is the status of the OMB case anyway? Is it just in a stalemate since the parties can’t agree or are they actively trying to resolve it? I’m not a legal expert at all, but is there anyway parents//residents can take legal action to either get Shellrock Developments to pay the servicing fees or sell the site in question to a developer who will? Other wise, I am concerned that the schools will never be built.

Also, a parent with kids in the Catholic School System has contacted their planning dept and received confirmation the their school will be delayed by this dispute too since the site for their school is partly on Shellrock land and partly on Mattamy land.
So we may want to change the heading of the petition to include the Catholic parents too… and the heading of the “sticky” with the link.

I couldn’t make it to the Parent Council meeting at Sam Sherratt on Monday, but was wondering if anyone brought this up there. Sean, did you attend? I know there are many parents in the traditional Sam Sherratt catchment area that would join us in the fight (I would not be happy if I were)… I can send a link to the petition to one of the exec.

Glad you got into this site Donna. I think it will be great for everyone to communicate on the same issue here rather than through private email. Keeping everything out in the open would be a welcome change to "old board" practices.

nope - the only responses i have recieved are from Colin and Donna....

anyone how can we find out the status of this OMB dispute and how it can be resolved? seems rediculous that it can be left in limbo when it affects all the kids in the area so much

That's why I wanted to speak to Barry Lee. Maybe we should call all his friends that were supporting him for re-election. Do you know he knocked on my door and said that he wasn't going to run again, but his friends wanted him to so he changed his mind. And that got him back in!
Unbelievable.
