if you want to protect the surface of the lots sign slide the hammer under it, and just work both sides a little at a time. I think I just did it from the top and it wasn't damaged, but you could go the other way.

My husband can probably answer this, but I thought I would ask anyway.
What do you use to fill in the hole caused by the nails. Most people have brick, we will have the Hardy Board material?
