Hi md2000,

I checked out the website briefly. You're right, some of the prices are pretty reasonable, and some ideas are kind of neat. Worth checking out if these are priorities.

I'm thinking though that for many of us just starting with our first house, they would be luxuries that are low on our priority list. I'm 29 and this will be the first house I actually own and have to pay a mortgage on. Not to mention that sooner or later Laura and I would like to start a family (which obviously also drains the paycheque significantly). Perhaps in several year's time, I could entertain these ideas a little more.

I was actually talking to my dad about some ideas a little while ago, like installing elongated toilettes, several furnishing options, California shutters - basically stuff to do after closing. After some reflection I thought his advice was sound: "Wait a few months after you move in and watch your priorities shift."

It was probably some advice that will help reduce some stress in the future. Opportunities (in relation to the house) will rarely run away. If they're important enough, I'll get around to it sooner or later. In the meantime, browsing the website you suggested is like window shopping - untimely, but fun anyway.

Just my two cents.

of course enterntainment system related stuff could be considered as luxury, but a lot of us here also discussed plasmas, fireplaces and a lot of oher items which are probably not possible for many new home buyers... we're all here to give each other ideas and what is out there and what is possible....

stuff like this may not be urs or mine first priority, but there a lot of techies out there who love all that...
True enough md. The sharing of ideas never hurt anyone open to them.

I also thank you for posting the website. It does have some stuff I would consider for the future (albeit not necessarily the high tech security stuff - I'd probably get myself killed using it :) ).

and many of these features are better installed during the construction than after u've moved in
This is where I ask you to explain yourself. My view is to wait until I move in and see what I think is important. The way I see it, the ideas and products posted on the website are things to do after you move in. How do you suggest we do this before taking possession, without the risk of having our stuff tampered with by the construction guys?

just my 1 cent...
I think I'm down to half a cent now. If you're British, that would be a ha'penny. (I'm not British.)
