Hey fellow town house owners, we got told on our frame walk that the gas meter is no longer covered over with the metal door type thing like in older phases, instead, they almost completely brick it up which looks HORRIBLE in our opinion.

At least with the metal door thingy, you could paint it and we've seen some houses where it looks super nice, with the new brick way, it just looks bad. Check out the towns that are already bricked facing Clark (at the top of Stark) and you'll see the new way Mattamy is doing it.

Oh well, gives Ken an excuse to build something to cover it up.... :D

Bonnie

On the town houses on the previous phases they used to put a metal door to cover the gas meter. On our phase, they have decided to brick around the meter, and leave it exposed. you can see what they have done on the houses along clarke. The meter now is visible on the front of the houses. Residents of the previous phases were able to paint the metal door so that it blends into the house. We do not have this option. I am going to make a removable cover out of some nice wood to cover it up and make it look nicer.

LOL... guess Ken really SHOULD add tools to the Canadian Tire wedding registry... sigh... I think I just lost my basement/garage to a "workshop"... better start buying the Sun for appropriate girly posters!

Hopefully Sunday, I want to bring my dad into the house and Dave suggested that Ken drill now so that he can wire the basement for cable/phone once we're in there.

It may not be possible, its quite the weekend, we will be all over God's country....(Brampton, Meadowvale, Burlington, Oakville... and hopefully Milton, plus Mum and Dad have to go to Port Perry on Sunday)

How about you Bonnie, are you guys going to go and drill any holes or anything? It is so hot in there now with all the plastic/insulation, it won't be fun to do anything inside the place for long.

hmmm, can't remember (didn't pay much attention to that stuff, I must admit), Ken's probably not going to be back on the board today, I think he's running around at different sites all day long... sorry, can't give you a clear answer...

oh don't worry, Ken "the fix-it guy" is just two houses down!

My dad's done it loads in our house as well and it is really not hard to run wires (through the duct work, under baseboard etc etc). You'll figure it out!

I see that I have been volunteered.....

Yes... Shawn did say that it would be ok to run some wires. However, I am just going to drill some holes through the sill plates and tape a piece of string to where I want the wire to end, and dangle it into the basement. That way I can tape the string to the wire and pull it up after we have moved in. I plan on running some co-ax for cable up to the master bedroom. And maybe a couple other spots for telephone.

As for the covers for the meters. I am going to get some nice Mahogany or Red Oak from work and make a small square cover that I can hang off of a braket so that the gas man can come and check how much gas we are using.. ha ha ha...

Nicole... I think that is a wonderfull idea for me to have a workshop in the garage....

Unfortunatley Nicole and I are running all over Halton / Peel region this weekend. Saturday is booked solid... we might swing past on our way down to Burlington around 12:00ish. I'll have a cooler full of lucky lagers!!!!!!!!!

Hi all

We were at the house on the weekend. I must say, that I am non to pleased with the gas and Hydro Meters... What were they thinking other then saving money... Oh well... nothing we can do about it. I am going to keep my eye's open for some bricks the same color and possibly build a little wall around the gas meter to cover it up.

Ken :?

Yeah...

We saw where they are planning on putting the meter for the gas. We have a railing with pickets that is going across the porch which will cover it from a point of view of being on the porch. However, as I mentioned before I am going to look for some scrap bricks and build a little box around it to cover it up.
