I'm looking at buying a used Murano. I was wondering if any kind Murano drivers/owners had any feedback on the car. More specifically, I am also inquiring about gas for the vehicle. Is it RECOMMENDED or REQUIRED to take premium gas (as per manual)? Also, how much does it cost to fill a tank (approx)? KM's per tank (approx)?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I own another Nissan product with the same motor, and premium is required. A lot of people who own these cars buy regular, and you are lucky if you get away with it without problems, but the engine was designed to run on 91 octane.

A full tank of premium from 1/4 to full will be about $75. Km per tank depends on your driving habits and route to work. I get about 600km to a tank with 65% highway and 35% city.

This VQ35DE motor is also known to burn oil. Find a Murano with service records, and make sure the exhaust tips are not excessively black. This motor also has multiple oxygen sensors (4), and they are known to go with age.

I recommend you get the Nissan X-Trail (2.5L 4 cyl) if you're worried about fuel costs.

I have a Murano that I use regular gas for. So far, not a single problem and its been over a year. Premium gas is only recommended. I believe the tank size is 65L and change...I get about 450-500km's on a full tank with my regular gas. That's pretty good from what I hear!

Its an absolutely nice ride though - good choice!

I agree totally with Alpha,

The Nissan VQ engine is consistantly rated as one of the world's 10 best engines according to Wards Consulting, it does have some minor issues like the oxygen sensor and burning oil but if properly maintained it is minimal. The power is excellent but you pay in fuel economy. I have a 6 speed Maxima and I get approximately 550 km to a tank with 60% city and 40% highway. In the car's defence, I do drive the car harder than the average person.

I would also like to reccomend the Toyota Rav 4 or the Honda CRV, a little smaller than the Murano but it gets great fuel economy, excellent reliability, and great resale values. I work in the OEM automotive sector and I follow the automotive industry very closely.

Love my Murano. Depnding on the cost of gas I will run premium or mid-grade. Mine's a 2004 and never had a problem with it (other then the Radio which had to be replaced 4 times).

Yes, the Bose deck is a nightmare in all premium Nissans like the Murano and Maxima, and when you listen to a CD, sometimes only the right side speakers will play. My deck had to be warrantied twice by the previous owner, and it's caused by a contact band within the unit that loses connection when transferring sound to the left side speakers. The left speakers will come back sometimes randomly, or if you hit a hard bump on the road.

I currently drive an Accord coupe 3.0 V6. The costs to gas the Murano seems to be expected/reasonable considering I pay around $75 to fill my car and get up to 500kms per tank - pretty much all city.

I'll soon need the services of a larger vehicle and I've always liked the Murano since its debut in 2002. And while I agree that CRVs/RAV4s/etc would be better economically, I'm a "car-guy" and would lean towards driving what I like since I have to live with it everyday.

THe trade off in size and utility seems just in any increase in fuel/maintanance costs considering a 2 door coupe is really only good for two people and their keg, er, i mean, luggage....

Yup, that exactly what happened to me..only sound from the right side. Actually what started it all was my amp blew. Took it in and it took 4 different replacement units for them to get one that fully worked. Once they gave me a unit where the CD didn't work at all, twice I had units with no sound on the right side...4th time the charm Love the BOSE sound though....

get a crv or pilot! probably double ur mileage compared to a nissan for a full tank of gass!

Honestly I have no complaints with my Murano on gas. I do a lot of short in town trips (school & back with the kids) and not many vehicles are good that way. But I have no complaints with it''s highway mileage.

i love my '04 murano!! full tank would cost me around $80.00 and get more than 500 km all city driving!
the only problem i had with the sound is the rattling on the driver's side window due to the loud base.
also...the nav took us to the wrong street in alliston one time

05 Murano was better than the C05 RV on gas. Weird eh..? Who'd have thought...

Their fuel consumption has gotten even better.

CRVs and RAV4 are nice but I do want something more substantial... I was looking at a few '05 Muranos and right now, depending on mileage and other things of course, they're half the cost when they were brand new... so its like I'd be getting something substantial without paying a substantial price...?

Again, I expect and am willing to undertake increases in costs as my Accord coupe will be of no use to me soon.... Its all about tradeoffs. The Murano is a vehicle that I like because of its car-like drivability and suv-like utility. When comparing apples to apples, there doesnt seem to be any comparisons out there.

I would love it if honda made a vehicle like the Murano, but the CRVs are too pricey new and used - good on them and their owners for that, and Pilots are too truckish... No offence, but I personally find Toyotas a bore and I wouldnt touch an American car with a 10ft pole...

And hey, I enjoy the enthusiasm of all the Nissan/Murano respondants and the opinions of those with a varying voice.

If you want an SUV with great gas mileage, go for the Jeep Cherokee with 3.0 CRD Diesel. That thing has the Common Rail Mercedes diesel engine, lots of power and torque. Great price too.. I think they are $35k.
