We've been without hot water on and off since Friday (last Friday). Got up to take a shower that morning and ran out in less then 10min. Turns out the computer on the HWT is "screwed" Assuming your tank is like ours, there should be a flashing green light, that will flash in code (the codes are on the side of the unit) ours was showing an "eco failure". Don't plan on getting it fixed anytime soon, we're waiting for our replacement part to FINALLY come today.
Wierd thing is we would have no hot water for 2 days, then all of a sudden have a full tank, then non for a day, then a full tank. Be tough when dealing with Reliance....they wanted us to wait 3 days before they even came and looked at it the first time, dh freaked out on them and they were there the next day. Doesn't make much difference when they don't have the proper parts in stock though.
You can try unplugging it, waiting about 10 sec and pluggin it back in and see if it kicks in. Ours would for about 30 sec then turn off again. IT has basically been a guessing game for the past week as to whether we would have hot water that day or not.

So after waiting just over a week for my control unit to be replaced which was just this morning, they discovered the igntiion switch isn't working..of course it's Saturday and they don't have the part so I'm still without hot water (not even luke warm) till sometime Monday.
According to the guy from Cervol Service who Reliance contracts out to fix these tanks (the OZZ ones anyway) there's problems with tanks all over HV.

Well I just got off the phone with Ozz because my switch is still not in at the suppliers and now they are "promising" me tomorrow. I've had it, I phoned to get the buy out amount to get out of this contract and after hearing $1,800.00 I guess they've got me roped in for awhile. I asked about paying a penalty and having the tank removed...same price. What a scam. The lady at Ozz is now phoning Cervol Service who they contract it out to see what is going on she also said this is unacceptable and I will get a credit on my bill but in the meantime I still have no hot water. I feel for the service guy because he has been great at keeping into contact with me and I know it's not his fault but how can these companioes install all these water heaters and not have the parts to fix them?
