Hi Owens Mom

Councillors have not received the public notice yet on when the rezoning meeting will be held for the day care application. It should be sometime in August or September depending on the review of the application. Will let everyone on the villager know about it.

Usually when there is a minor wording change such as the signage, it is usually at the request of planning staff to be more specific on the type of zoning for the property. The property like all other vacant lands within the future urban area are currently designated "FD" for Future Development which means any use has to come to council for a public meeting regarding the proposed uses and servicing.

To answer previous posts regarding character roads you can type in character roads on milton.ca home page to get more details directly from Town planning staff.

Fourth Line like Peru road, and Main St. West (after it is cut off) and other low traffic areas are designated character roads to keep the traffic volume low and preserve existing trees and landscaping along the street to protect the area and to direct traffic onto collector and arterial roads that are designed for greater traffic volumes.

Check upcoming reports at milton.ca click on council then agendas and scroll down for the council calender for upcoming meetings and agenda items.

Hi Tim and Sherri

Check out the Sherwood Survey map and also the Heathwood Homes map at their sales office. The existing Main St. W. will become a court similar to Peru road south of the creek when the development starts in about 1-2 years west of the Heathwood homes and north of Steeles Ave. in the Milton Heights area (you can also check the hdsb.ca web site for school boundaries which should where the roads and new subdivisions are going).

Between the Mattamy Vista and Intracorp homes plans (you can also see the new roadway plan at the signs at the corner of Tremaine and Main St. W.) Main Street west will curve south from the Heathwood homes area and turn west to meet up with Tremaine just south of the old stone house on the east side of Tremaine just south of the existing Main St. W.

The new Main street west will have a two lane traffic circle at Tremaine by 2011 according to Regional staff and will become a four lane divided street similar to Main St. East east of Thompson Road with intersections at Savoline and Scott Blvd. The old Main St. W. will be renamed Given Lane and cut off at Tremaine road on the east side for the 20 homes on the court area similar to what Peru road will also become north of Steeles Ave. as the new Tremaine road four lane by-pass will go north of Steeles between the current location and Peru road with a new intersection just west of the CPR tracks and linking up to Highway #401 hopefully before the scheduled 2017 opening which regional staff are projecting.

There will be more announcements at halton.ca and milton.ca as construction proceeds.

Also for anyone in Escarpment and Fieldgate/Arista/Greenpark homes work is starting next week on the new traffic lights at Scott Blvd. and Derry road and Bronte Street North and Steeles Ave.W. to keep up with the growth in traffic from these areas.

This so-called "Character Road" 4th line was rammed solid the other day due to the 401 closure. As you all know, on Tuesday, every major road in Milton was rammed - completely gridlocked.

Subdivision, low traffic roads, were not. If 4th line is really meant to be one of the lower-travelled subdivision-type roads, why did Derry road traffic spill into it? I mean, it was backed up SOLID from Britannia all the way up past Clark. I couldn't ever turn out of Story.

I guess my aorta is a low traffic 'character' artery is well.

Colin - quick question regarding your statement:

"Usually when there is a minor wording change such as the signage, it is usually at the request of planning staff to be more specific on the type of zoning for the property."

Wouldn't you agree that "Minor Institutional" is actually LESS specific than "Daycare"?
I've only heard good things about the Lizzis - would they be able to comment personally. "Institutional" sounds more religious, and I don't want to go down that road again ;)

Thanks Owens Mom

Just to let everyone know the first public meeting and Initial Report is for the Day Nursery on the Lizzi property is on the agenda for Monday July 21st. in the Council chambers of the Town Hall starting at 7.30 pm.

All neighbours within 120 metres of the application should be receiving a letter from the Town regarding the meeting which anyone can speak at without having to register earlier with the Clerk.

The report is on line at milton.ca under report PD-058-08 which staff are recommended to be received for information for a further technical report and agency and public circulation. Staff have already noted concerns regarding parking location and traffic impacts. The technical report should take about 3-6 months to complete depending on comments and concerns from agencies and the public.

Hi SLR

I hope you are coming to the meeting tonight to speak to the application.

This is the time to state your concerns before staff starts working on the application along with the 20+ other agencies that are involved in a rezoning application.

I understand from staff that the applicants are already preparing to make some changes in the parking lot etc.

Hi Colin,

Has there been any concideration to making 4th line a NO PARKING street on both sides?
As busy as this street is it will no doubt get busier with the addition of a library a daycare centre and a highschool. Right now, if you are heading North you are taking your life in your hands while passing a parked car, especially if the Southbound vehicle does not move over to give you the needed room. Often I find that I need to stop behind the parked car to wait for traffic to clear.

Jim

Hi Colin,

Yes my husband and I will be there. We are both very disappointed that there will potentially be 2 institutions on what is supposed to be a quiet residental street.

Make that 3. Colin mentioned there is also a highschool slated to go in at 4th line and Louis St Laurent.

A little more fodder for ya going in tonight.

Good luck tonight. I will not be able to make the meeting myself, but would be very interested in knowing what happened if you would not mind posting tomorrow morning.

Hi everyone
Everyone is welcome to attend council meetings and can speak at initial public meetings without having to register first with the clerks. The notices are standard planning act provisions to inform people in the area as well as signage on the property.

We have had people from as far as 20 km. away from an application speak at hearings and as a resident and taxpayer in the Town you have as much right to speak as anyone else.

The Planning department also has a register at the entrance to the council chambers on the stand to your right where you can sign in if you what to be informed of any further meetings and get a copy of the planning department report either by mail or email.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there and please stay for the Boyne Survey presentation a few items after the Day care proposal which will have a far greater impact on your area.

Colin et al.

Thanks for all the information thus far. I live on Marshall and concur with what has been said already about traffic on 4th line. I only found out about this tonight (had never read the thread before) but would love to hear what happened at the meeting.

I am not necessarily against the daycare but would have concern for the traffic on 4th line. Especially witha high school going in a few blocks further south eventually.

I too would love to hear more about last night's meeting, both in relation to the daycare proposal and the development south of Louis St. Laurent. I had intended to attend last night, but have come down with a nasty cold.

In particular, where is the exact location for the planned high school in the 4th Line and Louis St. Laurent area?

Thanks.

I was speaking with my neighbor last night when I got home. She was at the meeting and said despite many people speaking against the zone change, town council approved the decision for the request to proceed further.

She said a couple noteable people voted for the request to proceed. Namely our own Colin Best.

Colin, is that true? Can you please confirm?

Indeed. I ran into a neighbour at the mailbox this morning and she said the vote was 4-2 passing the motion. That means if ONE person voted NO instead of YES, it would have been 3-3.
ONE person.

ONE PERSON.

Colin, you don't need to reveal which way you voted if you don't want to, but I'm curious to get your take on the situation, given you're a frequenter of 4th line yourself.

Hi Fredd75.

Do you know what would have happened if the vote was 3-3? Is it like Vegas? A push? Or is it advantage developer?

It would be a shame if it really was carried on by one vote....

Was anyone else there last night?
