Anyone else have a ton of ants IN the house? They seem to be coming in under the baseboards in the kitchen, and up through the hardwood. We've put stuff down that is supposed to be taken back to the anthill and kill them all, but apparently it doesn't really work.

We don't have kids or pets, so aren't too concerned about toxicity of putting down powder etc. but there are no visible anthills nearby that we can see.

How are they getting in? The house is about 5 years old, we bought it resale. Is this likely to be a problem in the foundation, or the seal around the patio door?

No ants here - although ours is only 1 year old.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. Our home is also five years old.

We first had them a few years ago through the baseboards in our front hallway. I called a pest control company who came by to see a sample of one to identify it to see what could be done. The ones we had were really tiny and he told me to use liquid borax from raid (little red plastic bottle available from wal-mart) and not to waste my $ on bringing in a professional. The liquid raid stuff did the trick and they were gone within a week.

The problem came back again this year after three years of being ant free and this time through the baseboards in the kitchen. The liquid stuff worked again. If you are diligent and reapply it every day where you see them come in from, it takes about a week to get rid of them.

When we first moved in 2 weeks ago you would have thought there was an ant farm in our kitchen, we killed over 100 the first 2 nights and found they were in the baseboards of our kitchen!
We bought Raid Ant Bait traps, they are little black huts with food in them, the ants carry it back to all their buddies and it kills them all.

Good luck!

I noticed the same thing in my home a year ago. I purchased the same thing from Raid and I found it worked well. Haven't had a problem in the house after that but we do notice them in our garage now.
