Quick question - has anyone deleted this "lip" of the countertop, and NOT do a backsplash on a wall?

We are worried about damage to the walls if the tap should leak and we don't do a backsplash - but we aren't really sure whether we want a backsplash. However, we really like the look of the counter top without this "lip", and don't know what to do.

If I remember it correctly, you can't delete it unless you order a backslash from Mattamy as an upgrade.

dakaardian -

Not true. We can have it deleted for a charge.

If you get granite counters the lip is not there either. Not sure if that was obvious or not.....

I would think it would be fine... we're deleting the lip in the bathroom... and the kitchen but we're getting a backsplash through mattamy.

I think deleting the lip and not doing a backsplash would be fine also, but I would love to hear from anyone who might have done this...just to get some reassurance.

Or at least someone who waited a year or more before doing a backsplash!

It should not really matter since the builder will have to c*** the counter and the wall with silicone. It would not cause any damage. Even if it did, you are going to tile over it anyways right?

In our old house we deleted the lip and didn't put any backsplash on the wall for about 2 years. No damage done.

Many people have done this. Mattamy will just tell you that it "voids" the countertop warranty...

I'm not worried about the voided countertop warranty - only the possible damage to the drywall behind the tap (if the tap were to leak).

I'm not sure yet if I want a backsplash - but I know for sure that I want that lip deleted. And yes, I'm aware that lots of people do this - but most put in a backsplash shortly after closing. What if I leave the wall painted only - no backsplash? Anyone done this?????
