COLIN: You are the only politician that I have a lot of respect and gratitude for. You have proved yourself countless times. I have never voted in municipal elections, you are the reason I will be voting from now on becuase Your dedication, commitment and understanding is exemplary. You should be the next Mayor of Milton.

ZEESHAN:I hereby extend my full support to your campaign, even though I might not be in your zone, and probably couldnt vote for you. I believe you should be on the council. :)

Thanks to both of you I feel like I live in a great community with concerned and involved citizens like Zeeshan and a councillor like Colin who actually make real difference with their dedication.

Hi thenay

The same reason why there is not much action on the other side of Derry Road between 6th and 8th lines.

Regional staff informed me the asphalt plants that supply road builders shut down over the winter due to the difficulties in paving in winter conditions and the frost heaving any newly laid material.

Road construction typically slows down during the winter as most work is above the frost line and would result in having to re-do the work again in the spring. You will see all the construction projects re-start later in March for all the Derry, James Snow and Tremaine road projects when the paving can be done.

There will be a public meeting regarding the Tremaine road detailed plans sometime in February for the construction between Derry Road and the new Main St. W. traffic circle. I will be posting the date, time and place when I receive confirmation from staff.

I am willing to bet my monthly salary that Derry widening between 6th and 8th line won't be completed until spring 2011. Now I'm fine with the fact that widening of Derry is taking forever, but at least the regional staff should have the decency to set realistic project completion times, and stop feeding the public with excuses that are very hard to believe not only for those who are in construction business.

Hi Tee & Dee

Sorry to disagree with you but the completion is scheduled for June 2010 and the majority of the work has already been done, such as all the bridge work, culverts and base. You can see the four laning work between the #407 and 8th Line only took a few weeks to do. The same will be in the spring to finish the remaining parts between 6th and 8th line as the contractors will want to get onto other projects as soon as possible.

With the federal/provincial infrastructure program you will be seeing a number of road projects advanced including Highway #25 work, Bronte St. south of Derry widening and the start of Steeles Avenue widening later in the year.

Will have more news next week with the transportation review meeting next Wednesday at the region, staff and council are pushing up other transportation projects such as the widening of Dundas St. through Burlington and Oakville and other priority projects. The comments on the villager really assist me in the discussions as a number of councillors/staff and reporters read this site.

Hold on, there's something here I don't quite get;

This whole thing about ashphalt plants shutting down over the winter.... hmmm. What part of that doesn't makes sense?

I mean don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's you Colin, i understand you are just passing along the messaage, it's the message I have a problem with.

Now, the explanation sounds reasonable, but here's the thing, ashphalt over by the new Shoppers and Tim hortons was put down over the winter, that hasn't been an issue... but even more telling... why the hell would they start this project so late, if they knew they couldn't finish before these plants shut down for the winter? I don't know about you, but what's the point, to have an unfinished road through the winter, with pylons, and half excavated roads everywhere... yeah that's pleasant....

Furthermore, we have been lucky this year with not a lot of snow (knock on wood), but if we had a typical winter snowfest, wouldn't Derry between Scott and Bronte be a lot more dangerous with all that unfinished construction and a new bed of snow covering everything up?

Again, Colin, I'm not pointing this at you, you were nice enough enough to pass along the information, but here's a message you can pass back ... WTF? This is stupid! If you know these ashphalt plants shut down by a certain time, and obviously they know that, and if they know how long it will take to do this project and that time will not be before the plants shut down until March, why did you start so late? And what was the point of only doing half a job?

I understand we live in a new area and there will be a lot of construction, i accept that.... but at least with the builders we see progress and they are trying to get it done.... this just seems so unnecessary...

Am I missing something here, or does this just sound stupid? Please, if I'm missing something, help me explain.... because i am so tired of hearing how our taxes are going to build new infrastructure, and they are very good about getting their money on time, but they seem to have a problem with delivering their part on time. I paid and continue to pay my part.... i'm not late, and if I am I'm held accountable... why is it they aren't?

Sorry, just a little sick and tired of seeing an unfinished road and nobody working on it.... and now hearing that the ashphalt people shut down over winter, just added more annoyance. Why even start? Better yet.... why start so late?

Why does there always seem to be a delay... tell you what , what if we decided not to pay our property tax on time. Let's see if I can come up with a lame ass excuse as well, how about the fact that our winters are so closed i have to wear gloves until spring. And I have to wear them all the time, because the cold can lead to pain in my joints, so I need to keep the gloves on. now since i'm wear my big bulky gloves, because they are the only ones that keep my hands warm and prevent my joints from hurting, they make it very difficult to hold a pen. Now since i can't hold a pen, i can't write a cheque, or use a keyboard to pay on line or anything like that, so I have to wait until April or May when it starts to warm up, and i can finally remove my gloves, so i'm sorry but I won't be able to pay my taxes until then... that's about the same dumbass lame excuse that i just heard for them not doing anything to the finish the roads until march... How would they feel about that? I'm guessing they would just charge me interest like there's no tomorrow, so maybe we should pay less for every day, week, month they are late with their schedule as well.

I know you think I'm being stupid, that's okay, I think they are too.

I don't think you are being stupid. I wonder the same thing. when they started digging up everything between Scott and Bronte in like ... September, I thought in my head "this is going to make for a messy winter."

Also, if they can't be laying down asphalt ... is there not other things they could be working on? Were always given the excuse that roads take time to do because it's not just as simple as laying down asphalt. Well, why don't I see workers doing everything but laying down asphalt in the winter?

Another thing that boggles my mind, is the lack of visible urgency with this construction companies. Are there no $$ penalties for completing a project way behind schedule? I mean, I've never seen them working on the roads after 6 (even in the summer when the nights are longer), or even on weekends. I mean, if I was behind schedule at work, these are things that are pretty common occurrence. Yet not once, when I was stuck in ridiculous traffic backup on derry road after 5pm, did I see workers out there trying to get the job done.

It drives me nuts.

Deep breaths, think happy thoughts.
