Bringing people together in Hawthorne Village, Jasper Village, Hollybank and the Coscorp communities

There is new information on Detached Homes soon to be released in Hawthorne Village which have been long delayed but are coming "this spring". This new information is actually a bit disconcerting. Mattamy's new advertisements for Hawthorne Village now say "Coming Soon. A new release of detached homes in New Interior and Exterior styles". On their website for Coming Soon, under Hawthorne Village it also says "...all new WideLot floor plans and exterior designs." It's the "all new" floor plans part that I'm having trouble with. As we've been visiting Hawthorne Village since December 2003 looking at their existing models/floor plans and eagerly anticipating buying a model we like when they do the new releases this spring. The idea that maybe the models/floor plans we've been seeing the past 5 months will now not be sold, and new plans will take their place is a bit upsetting to hear just now. I called the Milton sales office today but they can't provide much light on the subject. They didn't even know there would be new floor plans for sure. The sales person says they don't know at this time if the new homes will have old floor plans or new floor plans. But Mattamys new advertising that has just come out plainly says "all new WideLot floor plans" and new "exterior styles". (It could eventually be a combination of the two, i.e. keep some of the old models/floor plans along with some upgraded plans/exterior styles.)

Either the Milton sales people....

(A) Didn't yet read Mattamy's new advertisements for Hawthorne Village
(B) Have read them but are not yet able to comment/talk about it until the official release.

I'm guessing it's (B). It's hard to believe that Mattamy would publish written advertisements saying there will be new floor plans, and then not do so. So it's confusing why the sales staff would still say they don't know if there will be new floor plans. Wouldn't advertising/marketing and sales speak to each other?

The model we are interested in is the Tothburg II. So we're HOPING that this is not going to be cut-out & replaced with a new model. We didn't until yesterday even know that this was a possibility.

P.S. I want to also say that the sales people at Mattamy's Milton sales office have always been nice, friendly and very patient with our constant questions ;-).

Spoke to Mattamy today on timing of when new detached houses would be available at Hawthorne Village. Guess what, they are saying "sometime next month". So the new ETA is sometime in May.

Greg Scott has a good website about new homes in Milton. I found his Milton Utilities Checklist very useful.

Here's a map showing the plans for the new Loblaws Superstore, other commercial/retail shops are apparently opening in the same location.

I've found out the Wal-mart will be built at James Snow Parkway and Steeles.

This is a link to another weblog of a couple buying a new Mattamy home (in Markham). If anyone knows of websites about Mattamy in Hawthorne Village, Milton please let me know!

It wasn't yet mentioned on Mattamy's website, but yesterday (April 3rd) they released a new phase of Townhomes in Hawthorne Village, Milton. Although we're not interested in the townhomes, we did visit the sales office to take a look. The sales office was crowded, but not as bad as I expected. It was curious to note that Mattamy's website didn't mention this new release date before it occured. If you visit Hawthorne Village's sales office and are interested in a home/model that's sold out, they put you on a call/email list to contact you in the future when a new release will occur. I'm guessing that's how most of the people there this weekend heard about the new townhomes. There's also the assumption that new releases only occur on a Saturday.

After visiting Mattamy we spent more time looking around Milton. We visited the Milton Leisure Centre (very nice pool facilities and gym) and the GoodLife Fitness Club. Both looked great! I really liked the family orientation the Leisure Centre has, and my wife liked the large selection of treadmill machines GoodLife has. It will be a hard pick between the two when we move. The staff at both places were friendly and helpful. Looking at it at a purely cost/benefit ratio I like the Leisure Centre the best, as it's affordable, close to our future home, and has a wide range of programs & facilities.

We got confirmation that a Loblaws Superstore will be coming to Milton. The town already has a Loblaws, which will just be replaced by a larger Loblaws "Superstore" close by. We also discussed the good and bad about the future Wal-mart coming to Milton. Milton is a small town but it's having some pretty fast growth. I just hope it will be managed well. There's a relevant editorial letter in the Milton Canadian Champion last week about Milton's growth. I couldn't find the original "Patrick Kelly" letter it seems to refer to? But this letter itself raises good points of responsible development planning.

I wanted to provide some information about the land around Hawthorne Village, Milton.

Here is a .PDF file (170k) that shows current school locations nearby.
Here's a .PDF map (624k) showing the mattamy subdivisions in Milton (both currently registered and future applications submited) as well other new home builders.
Here's a .PDF (231k) of the Initial Report the Town of Milton did discussing the Mattamy subdivision #17 application (on the above subdivision map, SW corner of Derry Road & Thompson Road).

There's also plans for a Loblaws Superstore for Milton possibly open for Summer 2005 at the southwest corner of Main Street and Thompson Road. This would eventually replace the existing smaller Loblaws that already exists in Milton.
